About Latitud Cero

Latitud cero is Spanish for latitude zero: the equator, the line Ecuador is named after. This site is about everything that grows, cooks and happens along it.

Latitud Cero is written by a family in West London, one half of it Ecuadorian, with roots in the Andes. We started it because Ecuadorian food is hard to find out about in the UK. It tends to get folded into “South American” or mistaken for Peruvian, and the recipes online rarely work with what’s in a British supermarket.

The recipes here are the ones we cook at home, adjusted for UK ingredients. Where we use a substitute, we say so.

The site is for anyone curious about Ecuador: people who grew up with this food and miss it, people who married into it, and people who have never tried it and want to.
